James Therieau

Painting · Drawing · Holography

A Massachusetts-based painter working in painting and drawing. His work moves between abstraction and observation, with forms developing through layers of marks, revision, and experimentation with materials.

He earned a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 1989 and an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. That summer, he attended an artist residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture on a full scholarship. His broader visual background also includes many years of professional work with holography and optical processes.
